Deacon Jeff Montgomery was ordained to the permanent diaconate on December 1, 2018, at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Birmingham, Alabama. His first diaconate assignment was at Most Merciful Jesus Catholic Parish in Madison, Alabama. He currently serves at St. Mary of the Visitation in Huntsville, Alabama. Deacon Jeff also serves as Director of Formation, Permanent Diaconate Program for the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama. His diocesan ministry is St. Vincent de Paul, where he serves as the Spiritual Advisor for the St. Vincent de Paul Council of North Alabama as well as for the Southeast Subregion of St. Vincent de Paul USA. Deacon Jeff also works with the Josephinum Diaconate Institute managing course production and delivery used for permanent diaconate formation.

Deacon Jeff has extensive experience facilitating retreats, serving as a spiritual advisor, teaching, and presenting faith-sharing talks. He is a Benedictine Oblate bringing the monastic charism into daily life and is associated with the monastic community of St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman, Alabama. He is a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and has held various officer positions over the past 13 years. His passion is serving others and guiding them to be aware of God’s presence while recognizing the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

Both native Texans, Deacon Jeff and his wife Liz have been married 36 years. They have two daughters, Alexis, and Victoria who is married to Kevin.  When not involved with family or ministries, Deacon Jeff and Liz enjoy gardening, traveling, and cooking together.
